Kala’ Tolachayo:
(that means “Hello Friends”)
Well, for the very first time ever and anywhere, Maldene is going to be seen at a book fair, specifically the Miami Book Fair International 2018. Reader’s magnet will be hosting a copy of my book at their booth there, ready to show it off to any and all Big Book Types that happen by to drum up some major interest. So for any of you that happen to be in or near the Miami area, see if you can go in and sneak a peek.
The information on everything bookish about Miami is reprinted below…
Miami Book Fair International is one of the country’s oldest and largest literary festivals and is held annually at Miami Dade College campus. Founded in 1984, its mission is to promote reading, encourage writing, and heighten an awareness of literacy and the literary arts in the city’s multi-ethnic community. It started as a local book festival organized by Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón, the president of Miami-Dade College Wolfson Campus, Mitchell Kaplan, owner of Books & Books, and Craig Pollock of BookWorks, with the cooperation of Miami Dade College and local bookstore owners. In its first year, the first Miami Book Fair known as “Books by the Bay” gathered around 25,000 participants. The annual event grew each year with the help of sponsors, community partners, media support, and later renamed the Miami Book Fair International.
Over the years, Miami Book Fair International hosts special programs such as the Festival of Authors, Ibero-American Authors Program, Children’s Alley, Student Literary Encounters, and Antiquarian Annex. The fair is also home to Evenings With…Series, which features renowned authors who are recipients of prestigious awards such as the Nobel Prize for Literature, Pulitzer Prize, National Book Award, Casa de las Americas Prize, Pushcart Prize, O’Henry Award, National Magazine Award, among others.
This year, ReadersMagnet is proud to join the Miami Book Fair International in its 35th year. ReadersMagnet is excited to be among the exhibitors of Street Fair in one of oldest and most prestigious literary festival in America. We will be joining with more than 200 publishers and book sellers and more than 500 authors in America’s biggest annual literary party.
