No matter what type of story, book, genre, or subject you wish to write about, be it short story, epic series, or self-help book, above and beyond ALL other good tips for writing, there is one piece of advice that rules them all, and that is Passion. You MUST have passion in your writing.

So, why is passion so important, you ask? Simple. No matter what endeavor in life, you will always do your best if your passion is engaged, and this goes for writing as well. try to write something as “just another paycheck” or choose a subject that really doesn’t fascinate you, and the effort just will not be there. But write something you are passionate about, something that really engages your excitement and gives you goosebumps just to think about, then you are guaranteed to do your best. after all, how can you expect your readers to love something that you can barely tolerate, or even simply feel nothing about? The difference will show in your writing, in the effort you put into it.

So, before you start that next book, make sure that you chose a topic or plot that you can REALLY go for, something that has you up at dawn eager to get started on it. If you have your doubts, then tinker with the basic idea until things are going in a direction that starts to thrill you. It doesn’t matter what the genre, passion is the key to doing your best then going a few steps beyond.
